I don't have a kid. Heck, I don't even know if I ever want one. But I love my niece and nephew very much. I want them to be healthy, and protected, and I want them to have a good life and not be as messed up as their aunt is. I was reading about child life insurance and I thought is a good idea because children's life insurance provides a financial head start for a child by accumulating cash value that can later be used for college or in the event of a medical emergency. I am going to talk to my sister and brother about this.
I am obsessed with office supplies. I love pencils, ink pens, markers, notebooks, etc. etc. It's been like that since forever. Now my niece, who's 5, has become the new Mini Me. She loves and has been collecting her own school supplies for about a year. She's very artsy and crafty, and she much rather be working on her notebooks than running outside. I was exactly the same at her age. Isn't it cool how certain traits are passed along generations like that?
Last week the MIL (monsters in law) called me and invited me to go with them to their Orlando vacations. I haven't been to the continental US since 1996, and that's exactly the last time I traveled by airplane. I always take the ferry to the Dominican Republic. Of course, since 1996 I've developed an irrational fear of flying, which has prevented me to get in an airplane the few chances I've had to do so. After the invitation, I considered that, but I also thought about my niece's graduation which I would have to miss if I went to Orlando. I had promised my niece months before that I would go to her graduation. I would also miss my nephew's Class Day, not exactly a graduation but very important because I have never attended any of his school's activities. I told the MILs that I wasn't going. By the way, they offered to pay all my expenses. They returned today from their vacation, and I wonder if I should have gone with them and take advantage of that opportunity that I will probably never have again.
But then again, I would miss my niece and nephew's special events and for me, those events are precious.
I don't think I mentioned (this blog has been kind of quiet lately), tat when I arrived here on February 16th, I arrived with some family members. Yeah, after checking out some vacation deals my father and his long-time girlfriend, my sister, my brother in law, my niece and another couple (friends of my sister) decided they should come to the DR and check this place out. They had never been here before. They only stayed for the weekend at an all-inclusive hotel and I got to show them some of the places where I hang out when I'm here. Of course, we were time-challenged but at least they got to see this apartment (they had heard so many complains about it!), the colmado, and the supermarket where I buy groceries and stuff. I loved having them here. My niece had her hair braided and she looked so cute. I was so, so sad when they left. I am grateful that they came, and I hope they can make it again some time in the future.
As I mentioned before I am really stressed right now over a lot of stuff. I'd really like to relax at one of the finest hotels Las Vegas. My head hurts and I think it's because it's the first time in almost two months that I've spent so many time in front of a computer. I have so many things to do, but as always, I am not doing anything. Right now, my niece is here with her little friends and I feel like I can't do any school work because from time to time they run in here to tell me about something. I don't have the heart to kick them out (I admit I've done it a couple of times). I really miss my niece when I'm away, so I just want to make the better of it. I suppose me being in front of the computer, and her and her friends sitting next to me trying to get my attention doesn't really count as interacting but it's a lot better than just being away.
Ugh! I hope to be able to work on it later on.
Now that my niece has learned to read and write, she leaves her grafitti everywhere.
I was really laughing when I saw that she had written the word "mamá" (mom in Spanish) on one of my sister's menstrual pads.
**LOL**
I am very proud of her accomplishments. She's getting all A's in school, she's part of our town's dancing group, and she's just in general a very easy little girl to deal with.
She is planning her birthday (way too early for that!) and she decided that the theme will be The Littlest Pet Shop. She loves animals. I hope to be there for her birthday this year. Last year was the first time since she was born that I didn't fill her kids party invitations and attended her celebration. That made me so sad.
Needless to say I love her a great deal.
I finally decided on my niece's Christmas present. Check it out! She's going to love it. She's always taking pictures with our cameras and now she'll have her own. This one is great because it can survive drops; it's very durable. It also has a two-eye viewfinder. This cute camera won the 2007 Electronic Entertainment Toy of the Year, for toys that merge high-technology with creativity and imagination. It should be fun. Now I need to find something for the nephew.
I already decided on what to get my husband.
Now I'm hoping someone gets me a Branson vacation! Yeah, right!
I'm excited. 'Tis the season!
Something has been wrong with my Internet connection here. I wasn't able to get online for the past few days. Something wrong with the fiber optic cables, maybe? I don't know. But it's been working better since last night.
I am looking for Christmas gifts for my niece and nephew. I definitely want a digital camera for my niece (there are lots designed for kids, but they're so expensive!) and maybe Legos for my nephew, or anything that has to do with a motorcycle (that's his current obsession).
Right now, I'm not liking eBay that much. It's hard to find any real deals there. With shipping, products cost as much as if you bought them at any other web site. If you know about any web sites with real deals and affordable pricing, please let me know ASAP. Time is running out!
